U14 Player Pathway
"Early Commitment Stage"
Stage of Development
U14 players transition to the full-sided 11v11 game on regulation-sized fields while beginning to make more intentional decisions about their soccer development and competitive goals.
Primary Focus
- Developing competitive habits and accountability
- Building tactical understanding and positional responsibility
- Learning the demands of the 11v11 game
- Aligning training with individual goals and aspirations
What Success Looks Like
U14 players understand their pathway, embrace the expectations of their team, and compete confidently in the 11v11 game. Success is measured through preparation, accountability, continuous improvement, and meaningful competitive experiences.
Team Formation
Teams are formed based on player development, commitment, competitive readiness, and long-term goals. While team placement becomes more intentional, flexibility remains as players continue to develop.
Competition & Travel
U14 players compete in higher-level leagues and regional events appropriate to their level and goals. Travel increases during the spring season, with opportunities that balance competitive development, family commitments, and team objectives.
Player Placement
Players are placed in environments that best match their current level of development, commitment, and aspirations. We strive to be transparent throughout the process while recognizing that player growth is continuous and pathways remain flexible.
Multi-Sport Participation
We strongly encourage players to participate in multiple sports and activities. Diverse athletic experiences help develop well-rounded athletes and support long-term enjoyment of the game.
Program
Middle School
Fall Academy
Designed for middle school players, the BFC Middle School Fall Academy complements the local school soccer season with additional opportunities for technical development and competitive play. Because middle school teams often play multiple matches each week, there is limited time available for focused skill development during the school season.
The program features a series of Sunday morning training sessions throughout the fall, focused on technical development, small-sided games, and tournament-style competition. Sessions are designed to challenge players, encourage creativity, and provide opportunities to develop technical skills while continuing to compete in a fun and engaging environment.

Program
U14 Winter/Spring
Team Program
The BFC Winter/Spring Team Programs for U13 & U14 Girls & Boys provide players with consistent training, meaningful competition, and a clear pathway for continued development throughout the year. The program is designed to help players build technical skills, improve game understanding, and develop the confidence and resilience needed to compete at their highest level.
Teams train regularly from December through June, combining structured player development with league play, tournaments, and other competitive opportunities appropriate to each age group and stage of development. Younger players focus on building strong technical foundations and a love of the game, while older players are challenged through increasingly competitive training and match environments.
During the winter months, teams train indoors to maintain continuity and maximize player development. As the weather improves in the spring, teams transition outdoors and continue preparing for league play, tournaments, and other competitive experiences. Team competition schedules are determined based on age group, player development needs, and team goals.
Whether a player is seeking a local developmental experience or a more competitive pathway, Burlington FC provides an environment where players can continue to grow, compete, and pursue their potential throughout the year.
